1. Mahashta Murasi, 179 years old 

A man in Varanasi, India, has made headlines around the world after claiming that he is 179 years old. Mahashta Murasi claims that he was born on June 6, 1835 and has the documents to prove it. If proved true, he would become the world's oldest known living person. According to Murasi, he worked in India as a shoemaker till 1957. He retired at the age of 122.

"Maybe the angel of death has forgotten me," he said. "I've lived for so long I've even seen the death of my grandchildrens' grandchildren."

Murasi, who has no records of health problems, said that his last doctor died in 1971. He has been entered into the Guinness World Book of Records as the oldest man in Indian history, Deccanchronicle noted.



2. Swami Sivananda, 124 years old

Swami Sivananda is an Indian monk whose passport, when checked at the Abu Dhabi airport, revealed him to be 124 years old.

Sivananda was born on August 8th in the year 1896, as recorded in his passport. This man here has been among the very few centenarians who have lived through the last three centuries.

He had lost both his parents quite early in life and had been given away to a spiritual guru by his relatives. Sivananda accompanied his guru for a tour of India which concluded with them settling down in the holy city of Varanasi. There he grew up amidst extreme poverty and eventually adopted the life of a disciplined celibate.

The oldest man according to the last update of the Guinness Book is a Japanese man named Jiroemon Kimura, who passed away in June 2013 at the age of 116 years. Currently, Melbourne’s Nessie Kluckhenn, who turned 110 on April 1, is known to be the oldest living man in the world.

Sivananda, who was initially reluctant of all the publicity, did apply to the Guinness Book of World Records after being persuaded by his followers. However, the only record of his birth seems to be an extremely obsolete temple registry from back in the nineteenth century, NewsYahoo noted.


3. Shantidevi Pandey, 115 years old

None of her kin did realize the fact till Shantidevi Pandey casually revealed her age as 115 years, at a private hospital where she is admitted after a hip fracture. It struck the doctor, who informed TOI about the case.

A resident of Seoni, over 100km away from Nagpur in Madhya Pradesh, she was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after a fall left her with a fractured femur neck (hip joint). Resting at the hospital room, Shantidevi was clear as a crystal in her communication. “The orthopaedic Dr RM Chandak, who is treating her, said she is perfectly fine to go under the knife,” said her kin.



4. Kiemsima Kharmawlong, 114 years old

Kiemsima Kharmawlong claimed to have been born on 17 September 1900 in India. Her relatives call her "Mei-ieid" (grandmother in Khasi language). In 2011, her family claimed to have confirmed her age by checking her EPIC. They subsequently celebrated her 111th birthday at St John’s Parish Hall.

At the age of 112, in February 2013, she voted in Shillong during Meghalaya's legislative assembly election. She was reported to not see and hear well, but she could walk with only a little support from other persons. At this time, she had a daughter, 4 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 70 great-great-grandchildren.


5. Nolleni Mrenda Momin, 113 years old

Mrenda Momin claimed to have been born on 11 April 1905. She was the only daughter of Gelloram Rongma Marak and Usni Mrenda Momin. From her early childhood, she lived a life of devotion and dedication to a religion. In 1922, Mrenda Momin married Tangkan Sangma of Nidanpur. They had six children: three sons and three daughters. After marrying, she lived with her family at Rangjuli, Assam where she was also an active member and leader of the Church.

In 1985, she moved to Rongkon, Tura, Meghalaya to live with her children and grandchildren. On 1 October 2012, at the age of 107, Mrenda Momin was awarded the Certificate of Longevity by Social Welfare Department on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons.




6. Lourdina Conceicao Lobo, 112 years old


Conceicao Lobo was born at Salvador do Mundo in Socorro, Goa, India, on 8 December 1908 as the eldest of nine children.

Conceicao Lobo was diagnosed with diabetes at a young age, but still enjoyed eating sweet and sugary foods. In May 2020, her last surviving sister was 92 years old. She had a history of longevity in her family, with both her mother and aunt living to be over 98 years old. She is a fluent Portuguese speaker, and still read the newspaper every morning as of 2020. She currently lives in Camurlim, Goa, India, at the age of 112 years, 134 days, Gerontology Wikipedia cited.

7. Rosa Vazhapilly, 111 years old


Rosa was born on 5 May 1903 as the 11th child of Vazhappilly Anthony and Achunni in Parannur near Choondal in Thrissur district, British Raj (now India). She was born into a poor family. She became domestic servant after her parents died when she was just a child. During those days, she worked in neighbors' homes in return for food as her siblings could not support her. After being employed by various neighbors, Rose began working for a local Hindu family when she was in her 30s. She never married.

Her name was included in the Limca Book of Records after relatives produced records showing that her baptism was performed on May 20, 1903 by the vicar of Our Lady of Rosary Church at Eranellur near Parannur. Relatives said she used to say that vegetarian food and regular work and walk were the secrets of her health. She was unable to take food since morning of 22 March 2015 following which she was admitted to the hospital on same day's night. She passed away on 24 March 2015 at a private hospital near Thrissur at claimed age of 111 years, 323 days.




8. Shivakumara Swami, 111 years old


Swami was born in Verrapura, Karnataka, India, allegedly in 1907. He was initiated into vitakrasham in 1930. He studied English in College and is a proficient in Kannada.

In 2007, the government awarded Swami the prestigious award, the highest civilian award of the state. In 2015, the government awarded him with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India.

Swami celebrated his claimed 110th birthday on 1 April 2017. He continued to do humanitarian work at the alleged age of 111. Swami died on 21 January 2019 at the claimed age of 111.
